Play the Sampson Way

Blog, Things to Do

Adventure in Sampson County comes in many forms—whether you’re paddling along a scenic river, strolling through vibrant parks, or joining in on community events that bring everyone together.

Nature lovers will find plenty of outdoor escapes, from quiet trails to lively recreation areas perfect for family picnics and play. Downtown spaces buzz with murals, art pieces, and gathering spots that reflect the heart of our communities. And for those who love agritourism, our farms and markets invite you to taste, see, and experience authentic rural life.

Outdoor enthusiasts and historians alike will discover a unique experience along the waterways of Sampson and Bladen Counties.  Surround yourself with ancient bald cypress trees, many more than 1,000 years old along the Black River in Three Sisters Swamp.  Nestled deep into the pristine waters is a tree called Methuselah, or BLK69 by its official name, which dates to at least 364 AD and has been verified to be the oldest tree in eastern America.

Kayaking and paddling are available along the Great Coharie, Little Coharie, and Six Rund Creek, as well as the Black and South Rivers.  Coharie River tours is a great resource for information about group paddle trips that are conducted frequently throughout the year.

Here, play isn’t just about what you do—it’s about how you feel. Relax, explore, and connect with the people and places that make Sampson County special.
